Excerpts from Historical and Architectural Sites Commission Minutes of August 19,2015: Local Landmark Designation for Dennis School Monarch Butterfly Monument Public Hearin� Mrs. Irons stated when the Local Landmark Designation for the Dennis School Monarch Butterfly Monument came before the commission on April 15, 2015. It was later discovered the legal description was incomplete. The item is again coming before the Historical and Architectural Sites Commission for this reason. The recommendation for this project from Assistant Billy Tyus is attached to the minutes. There were no questions or comments It was moved and seconded (Nagel/Larcher)to declare the public meeting closed. Motion carried unanimously. New Business Local Landmark Designation for Monarch Butterfly Monument at Dennis School Chairman Hank Norris asked if anyone had any questions or comments for this item. It was moved and seconded (Nagel/Penhallegon)to approve the resolution recommending the Decatur City Council designate the Dennis School Monarch Butterfly Monument as a Local Landmark. Motion carried unanimously. Public Comments Ms. Linda Burnham, third grade teacher at Dennis school, stated her students came up with the idea to make the Monarch Butterfly a Local Monument in tribute to the 1974-1975 third graders who proposed to make the Monarch Butterfly the state insect. Ms. Burnham thanked the commission for reconvening and working so hard to make this happen.
