McCrady, City Manager
Keith D. Alexander, Director of Water Management
SUBJECT: William Street Reservoir Exterior Repairs
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
Council adopt the attached Resolution authorizing an Agreement for William Street Reservoir
Exterior Repairs with Natgun Concrete Tank Services (Natgun) for a lump sum fee of$17,500.
BACKGROUND:
The East William Street Reservoir, located adjacent to Fire Station #2, is a 5 million gallon
concrete water storage facility built in the 1970s to assist in maintaining water pressure in the
north and east areas of Decatur. These types of tanks are constructed with significant amounts of
pre-stressed steel wire encased in thick concrete. Due to age, the reservoir's exterior has a few
small areas of eroded concrete with some exposed wires. At this time they do not impact the
structural integrity of the tank. It is prudent to maintain these areas now while they are small and
relatively inexpensive to repair.
The City owns two pre-stressed wire concrete reservoirs, one of which was built by Natgun, Inc.
Since Natgun has been very helpful over the past few years in providing technical assistance
about concrete tank maintenance to City staff, it is recommended that Natgun be awarded this
agreement.
The agreement includes the repair of up to 15 prestressing wires for a lump sum fee of$17,500.
During the performance of the work, if additional wires are discovered to need repair, they will
be repaired at an additional cost of$600 each.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION:
None foreseen.
STAFF REFERENCE:
Keith Alexander, Director of Water Management, 217-424-2863 or kalexander@decaturil.gov
Steve Leach, Water Production Maintenance Supervisor, 217-424-2830 or sleach@decaturil.gov
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS:
Funding for this project is included in the Water Non Lake Capital Fund.
cc: Shana Murphy,Natgun Concrete Tank Services Administrator
Steve Leach, Water Production Maintenance Supervisor
