DEPARTMENT OF WATER MANAGEMENT
Memorandum No. 2010 - 23
December 6, 2010
TO: Honorable Mayor Michael T. McElroy and City Council
FROM: Ryan P. McCrady, City Manager
Keith D. Alexander, Director of Water Management
SUs,)EC'r: William Street Pump Station Motor Control Center Replacement
Capital Project W09-15
Change Order No. 1 and Project Completion
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
Council adopt the attached Resolution authorizing William Street Pump Station Motor Control
Center Replacement Contract Change Order No. 1 with Bodine Electric of Decatur.
BACKGROUND:
In February of this year Council awarded a $161,950 construction contract to Bodine Electric of
Decatur (Bodine) to replace the motor control center (MCC) at the William Street Pump Station.
The MCC is the high voltage electrical control system for the pump station.
The project was substantially completed on time by September; however, there were two tasks
that required additional time by Bodine to complete:
• Additional wiring to all four booster pump transfer switch soft start position inputs.
• Wiring of booster pump #2 after the pump was installed by City staff.
The delay in performing these tasks did not impact City operations or our ability to use the
William Street Pump Station as the vast majority of the contract tasks were completed on time.
In order to properly complete the contract and associated documentation, Bodine and Strand
Associates, Inc. (the City's consulting engineer for the project) developed the attached Change
Order No. 1 and recommend Council approval, as does City staff.
Approval of the change order will:
1. Reduce the Citv's project cost by $9,323.30.
2. Extend the contract completion date by 90 days to December 10, 2010.
3. Properly document that the project is officially completed on December 10, 2010.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION:
None foreseen.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES:
Bodine Electric of Decatur and Strand Associates, Inc.
