DEVELOPMENT SERVICES MEMORANDUM
No. 10-114
December 1, 2010
TO: Honorable Mayor Michael T. McElroy and City Council
FROM: Ryan P. McCrady, City Manager
Greg C. Crowe, Assistant City Manager
SUBJECT: Sale of City Real Estate - Property near Route 121
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of the resolution authorizing the
sale of 6.8 acres of City property east of Mt. Zion Road (IL Rte. 121) and North of Jesek Lane in the
Long Creek Village limits to Longcreek Properties for $28,890.
BACKGROUND: The City of Decatur purchased the tract of land in 1955 for $7,500. The property
is currently in an unincorporated area but is surrounded by the Village of Long Creek. A map
showing the location of the property is attached. There does not appear to be any way to extend the
City of Decatur corporate limits to the property. City staff does not anticipate any use of the land for
City purposes.
At the October 4, 2010, City Council approved advertising the property for sale. City staff advertised
the property in the newspaper and posted a for sale sign on the property. A sole bid was received in
the amount of $28,890. The City received one appraisal on the property from Fitzjarrald and
Associates with an opinion of value for the property at $37,000. Another alternative for the City
Council is to reject the bids and either continue to hold the property or re-advertise the property for
sale.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: N/A
STAFF REFERENCE: Any additional questions may be forwarded to Greg Crowe at 424-2727 or
at gcrowe@decaturil.gov.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: N/A
