Four cross-cutting projects are recommended in the plan to provide a
framework for implementation. These four projects are: 1) public education campaign, 2)
urban core demonstration project, 3) newly developing area demonstration project, and 4)
economic development and green jobs.
We have been in conversation with CONO regarding a joint effort toward the urban
demonstration project. We support the idea of joint project and have revised our proposal
accordingly, reducing our expenses and adding outreach tasks and a site survey to the scope.
On Monday, November 1 we held a meeting with non-profit organizations in the afternoon to
discuss next steps, particularly on how to focus on starting the urban core demonstration.
There was interest from several organizations to work together and link to community-based
organizations to implement the projects. As we discussed at the meeting, the goal would not
be to start a neighborhood plan from scratch, but prioritize implementation of
recommendations from the City's Sustainability Plan at the neighborhood scale. This could
include urban greening efforts, recycling, public education, workshops to create rain gardens, a
targeted energy audit program, and other ideas that would best fit the local area. We also
discussed the idea that had come out of earlier public workshops for a competition to choose
one or two neighborhoods to launch the program.
I„ ,
