Marley, P.E., Director of PubGc Works
SUBJECT: Miscellaneous Storm and Sanitary Sewer Improvements Project Change
Order#1, CP 2010-09
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended by stafFthat the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing
Change Order#1 for the Miscellaneous Storm and Sanitary Sewer Improvements Project, City
Project 2010-09 in the amount of$100,000, and that the Mayor be authorized to execute the
change order, and the City Clerk to attest. This change order increases the total project cost to
$697,105.
BACKGROUND:
Prior Council Action
• The City Council approved the FY 2010-11 Capital Improvements Plan which included
an allocation of funds for this project.
• May 17, 2010—The City Council approved Resolution R2010-99 authorizing a$597,105
contract with Barr and Robison Sewer and Excavating, Inc. for the 2010 Miscellaneous
Storm and Sanitary Sewer Improvements Project (CP 2010-09).
Change Order#1
In the FY 2010-11 Capital Improvements Plan, $100,000 was available to be allocated for
emergency storm sewer repairs. This money was added into the Miscellaneous Sanitary Sewer
Improvements Project due to the similar nature of the work involved.
During the first four months of FY 2010-11, three emergency storm sewer repairs have been
completed, with a total cost of nearly$78,000. More funds for storm sewer improvements will
be needed during the remaining eight months of the fiscal year.
At least $100,000 of unbudgeted income trevenue has recently become available from the
State. It is proposed that this funding be allocated to the 2010 Miscellaneous Storm and Sanitary
Sewer Improvement Project to allow more storm drainage improvements to be completed.
Change Order#1 will add an additional$100,000 to be available for emergency storm sewer
repairs, such as the location pictured below. This sinkhole was discovered on October 11, 2010.
It is located on a portion of Lake Shore Drive which is also State Route 105. The hole has
Page 1
