Perry, Purchasing Supervisor(� SUBJECT: Bids for ammunition SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awaxding a contract to Shore Galleries to furnish 223 55 grain full metal jacket, 45 auto 230 grain Golden Sabre Bonded, and 40 caliber 165 grain Golden Sabre Bonded ammunition. Staff also recommends awarding a contract to Shore Galleries for 45 auto 230 grain full metal jacket and to Ray O'Herron for 40 caliber 180 grain full metal jacket ammunition that is on the State of Illinois contract. BACKGROUND: The ammunition is used by the Police Department for range practice as well as duty ammunition. State law requires all police officers and auxiliary officers to qualify for mandated annual fire arms training. The low bidder for 45 auto 230 grain Golden Sabre Bonded aminunition does not meet City of Decatur specifications. The bid submitted by Ray O'Herron is not Golden Sabre bonded. The rounds have been tested by the Decatur Police Department and found to not perform as well as the Golden Sabre. The second low bid of Shore Galleries meets the City of Decatur specifications. In addition, there are two types of ammunition on the State of Illinois contract which allows other entities to purchase off their contract. POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: The Police Department requested the ammunition and recommend approval of the bid. STAFF REFERENCE: James Anderson, Police Chief, 424-2745.
