McCrady, City Manager
, Ron Neufeld, Financial Management Director
Deborah M. Perry, Purchasing Supervisor
SUBJECT: Bids for Gate Valve
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding contract to HD Supply
Waterworks, Ltd. to furnish two (2) Mueller 16" gate valves with accessories and bevel gearing.
BACKGROUND: The 16" gate valves will be used by Water Services. One of the valves will
replace a defective valve and the other will be put into inventory for future use. The new valve
will be installed in the water main at the corner of West Grand and N. Fairview Avenue, and it is
vital to the operation of the 16" water main connected to the Division Street water tower. The
valve must be operational to complete the connection of the new water main from the water plant
to the Division Street water tower. The defective valve was installed in 1949 and will be sold for
scrap once it is taken out.
Another valve like this was recently installed twenty feet northeast of this location.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Water Service requested the valve and recommends
approval of the bid.
STAFF REFERENCE: Keith Alexander, Water Management Director, 424-2863. Randy
Miller, Water Services Manager, 875-5704. Randy will be at the meeting to answer any
questions the council may have about this purchase.
BUDGET: $13,300 from the Water Operating Fund.
