COUNCIL COMMUNICATION FORM
PURCHASING & INTERNAL SERVICES MEMOR.ANDUM
#10-37
May 11, 2010
TO: Honorable Mayar McElroy and City Council
FROM: Ryan P. McCrady, City Manager
Ron Neufeld, Financial Management Director
Deborah M. Perry, Purchasing Supervisorc
SUBJECT: Bids for in car video cameras
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding contract to CDS Office
Technologies to furnish Panasonic Arbitrator in car video cameras and accessories.
BACKGROUND: The Police Department has previously done extensive testing and evaluating
of the Panasonic in car video camera system. Since purchasing the initial fifteen cameras
approximately 1 year ago, the Police Department has been satisfied with the cameras. The
cameras work hand in hand with the Toughbook computers currently being used in the marked
patrol fleet. The system allows for automatic uploads of video which is less time consuming for
Police Department personnel. The cameras can provide important evidence for trial, protecting
the City and officers during citizen complaints and lawsuits in addition to ensuring professional
behavior of the officers.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: The Police Department requested the additional cameras
and recommend approval of the bid.
STAFF REFERENCE: James Anderson, Police Chief, 424-2741, and James Chervinko,
Deputy Chief, 424-2768.
BUDGET: DUI Fund
