Perry, Purchasing SupervisorC�� <br /> SUBJECT: Bids for water treatment chemicals <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding contracts to the low bidders listed <br /> on E�ibit A for each of the water treatment chemicals for May l, 2010—Apri130, 201 l. <br /> BACKGROUND: The following is a list of the chemicals and how they are used in the water <br /> purification process. <br /> Alum—to coagulate; clarifying agent <br /> Carbon—used for taste and odor control; control of atrazine and other compounds <br /> Carbon Dioxide—lowers the PH level � <br /> Chlorine—disinfectant <br /> Hydrofluosilicic Acid—reduces tooth decay <br /> Lime—softening agent <br /> Polymer—used as coagulant; lowers turbidity <br /> Sodium Chloride—removes nitrate from water <br /> Sodium Chlorite—disinfectant; used for taste and odor control <br /> Sodium Hexametaphosphate—used to counteract lime; prevents scaling; filter protection <br /> The low bidders have provided the City with the necessary bonding, NSF AWWA certification required <br /> for their chemicals. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None <br /> INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Water Management requested the chemicals and also wrote the <br /> bid specifications. They recommend approval of the bid. <br /> STAFF REFERENCE: Keith Alexander, Director of Water Management, 424-2763. Don Giger, Water <br /> Production Operation Supervisor, 424-2866. Keith will be at the council meeting to answer any questions <br /> the council may have about this purchase. <br /> BUDGET: Water Operating Fund <br />
