The audit identified several energy cost reduction measures including but not limited to
lighting, HVAC systems, equipment controls, building envelope and energy management. The report
identified approximately $340,000 in initial investment and $69,982 in annual cost savings from the
energy efficiency improvements for the entire building. The report is available upon request. City
occupies 41.4% of the building and shares the utility expenses in the same ratio. According to this
formula, the City's annual cost savings from the energy efficiency improvements will be approximately
$29,000.
Since the City leases the building, it cannot implement the recommendations. The intergovernmental
agreement will allow the Civic Center Authority to implement the recommendations with the EECBG
funds.
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: None.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: The City's Corporation Counsel has reviewed the agreement.
STAFF REFERENCES: If Council members have questions they may contact Vasudha Pinnamaraju at
424-2778 or vpinnamaraju@decaturil.gov.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: DOE has approved the use of EECBG funds for the Civic Center
retrofits.
