COUNCIL COMMUNICATION FORM
Decatur Fire Department Memorandum
#10-03
February 3, 2010
TO: Honorable Mayor McElroy and City Council
jVW
FROM: Ryan P. McCrady, City Manager "
Matthew Sekosky, Fire Chief
SUBJECT: Purchase of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Fire Department
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding purchase of 15 sets of PPE
to Towers Fire Equipment.
BACKGROUND: The fire department seeks to replace 20 to 25 sets of PPE every year. This
prevents them from needing to make one time extremely large purchases of PPE in one budget
year. Currently, they have withheld the purchase of new PPE due to budget constraints.
However, they are in need of 15 sets at this time to provide firefighters with safe PPE to wear.
The gear being replaced is beyond the cost effectiveness of making repairs that they would
normally try to accomplish.
The department is seeking to purchase the 15 sets of Morning Pride gear from Towers Fire
Equipment. The department tested other manufactures gear and has opted to stay with Morning
Pride. Currently, the entire department is outfitted with Morning Pride gear.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: Unknown
STAFF REFERENCE: Matthew Sekosky, Fire Chief 424-2811
Jeff Abbott, Deputy Fire Chief 424-2811
BUDGET: $25,200.00 from the Fire Department Budget
