An "Illinois fii�e department" is defilied as a tuiii of local <br /> governme»i (as defined in Article VII, Section 1 of the l(finois Consiii�riion or 1970 and in 5 <br /> ILCS 70/1.28) in Illinois th�i pl�ovides fire suppression �a�ithin a geogra��l�ical area. Eligible <br /> �lpplicants must have participaied in ihe N�tional Fire Inciden� Reporting System (NFIRS) for a <br /> minimum of t���o years prioi�io ille application. Appliclnis are rec�uired io submii a Certificaie o�� <br /> Illinois NPIRS Con�pli�ulce�long ���itl� iheir ���plicaiion. <br /> Fire deparlments or fire stations that are for-profit eniities, non-profit entities, associations, <br /> and/or noi-for-profii corporations (i.e., that are not govemmenial bodies) are noi eligible to apply <br /> fol� a gi-�nt under il�is program. Units of local goveriimeni thai do noi operate fii�e dep�i-tments <br /> are similv�ly noi eligible (e.g., � n�unicipalii�� t�h�t contracts for fire suppression froin �nother <br /> nitmicipality or fire districtj. <br /> Pro�.;ram Priorities <br /> This program is an inno��a�ive approacl� to a problein ih�i has long caused ciiCCiculties for i�he fire <br /> services in Illinois, particularl}� tl�ose that ha��e hardships in generaiing the necessar�� i-evenue for <br /> small equipmeni purchases.
