Alexander, Director of Water Management �� <br /> SUBJECT: William Street Pump Station Motor Control Center Replacement <br /> City Project W09-15 Construction Contract Award <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> Council adopt the attached Resolution awarding a construction contract to Bodine Electric of <br /> Decatur at a lump sum bid of$161,950.00. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The William Street Pump Station and Water Storage Reservoir are located on E. William Street <br /> adjacent to Fire House #2. The pump station was constructed over 30 years ago to house four <br /> pumps that are used to pump drinking water out of the five million gallon storage reservoir to <br /> assist maintain adequate pressure in the City's water distribution system. The pump station and <br /> reservoir are critical components of our water system. <br /> One of the pumps has worn out and a replacement pump has been delivered. In order for City <br /> staff to install the new pump, a new motor control center (MCC) is required due to significant <br /> changes in electrical codes over the past 30 years. The MCC is the high voltage electrical <br /> control system for the pump station. <br /> Plans and specifications were prepared by Strand Associates and advertised for bids on January <br /> 6, 2010. Bids were opened on January 27 with the following results: <br /> Compared to <br /> Engineer's Est. <br /> Bidder Bid Price Over (-Under) <br /> Engineer's Estimate $221,400 - <br /> Bodine Electric ofDecatur $161,950 (-26.85%) <br /> Anderson Electric of Mattoon $185,738 (-16.10%) <br /> City staff and Strand Associates recommend that the contract be awarded to Bodine Electric of <br /> Decatur. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTION: <br /> None foreseen. <br />
