Chervinko,Deputy Chief o Poli��. <br /> SUBJECT: Project Safe Neighborhood Grant <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: The Decatur Police Department has been selected to receive a <br /> grant in the amount of$30,000 from Project Safe Neighborhoods to reimburse the purchase of two <br /> additional overt surveillance cameras and the monthly costs associated with Comcast Cable <br /> Company. The U.S. Attorney assisted the Decatur Police Department in obtaining the grant and <br /> recognizes our well-developed initiative to address violent crime issues. T6ere are no matching <br /> funds associated with Project Safe Neighborhoods. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Decatur Police Department received Project Safe Neighborhood Grants in <br /> the Federal Fiscal Years of 2006/2007 and 2007/2008, but not in 2008/2009 due to cuts in funding. <br /> Funds from the first two years of the grant were used for overtime reimbursement for the Anti- <br /> Crime Team (ACT). <br /> In the last two years,the Decatur Police Department purchased four overt surveillance cameras <br /> using Weed and Seed grant funds. These surveillance cameras were placed in four locations in the <br /> Weed and Seed site. An additional camera will be purchased with the third year of Weed and Seed <br /> funds. The U.S. Attorney's Office is very familiar with our overt surveillance systems from the <br /> Weed and Seed Grant and assisted us with the acquisition of this year's Project Safe Neighborhood <br /> Grant. <br /> The Project Safe Neighborhood grant will reimburse the Decatur Police Department for the <br /> purchase of two additional overt surveillance cameras to be placed in a neighborhood(s) not <br /> associated with the Weed and Seed Grant.
