"I'hree bids �vere <br /> received ran�ing from $5,7iR,139.75 to $8,�90,(i?>.8�. 'i'he engineer's estimate for this project was$8,165,990.00. <br /> Tlie low bidder is Atlas Excavatine, Inc., from �Vest Lafayette, IN_ �'his company specializes in constructing �7f <br /> under�;round utilities including sewer and �cater lines,and also road and drainage ���cxk. <br /> .After revie�y�ing their bid, there was one particular line item that stood out. ntlas bid $U,10 per cubic yard for trench <br /> backtill for a total of$1,96?. `C'his item w��ulcl nonnally run $2� to $40 per cubic yard. At $25 per cubic yard the <br /> amount would have been $490.500. I talked to Atlas about the difference and they �verc awarc of the mistake. Thev are <br /> willing t��roceed �vith the pruject at their bid price. <br /> ln checking references, 1 talked tc� the Superintendent of Public Works in Onarga [L. "I'hey are about half way through <br /> a new sanitary sewer system serving ihe entire town, with Atla� E�cavating as thc contractor. He states that Atlas has <br /> been v�ry respunsive to any issues that havc come up and is very satisfied with ihe quality of work. This project is an <br /> EPA loan/grant probram, very similar to the EPA fundin�for Decatur <br /> The i�ther reference was the City Engineer li�r Vr'est Lafayette, 1N. They ha�e wor{:cd wid� Atlas Excavating un <br /> multiple projects, mast rccc��tly a large sanitary sewer project. Again, the quality of work was reported to be very gaod <br /> and completed in a timel_y manner.
