Marley, P.E., Public Works Director �,�.��`tC.�---y � <br /> SUBJECT: Reimbursement to the State of Illinois for Utility Attachment to the Illinois <br /> Route 48 Bridge Over Friends Creek <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing <br /> funding up to $7,000 to be paid to the State of Illinois as reimbursement for installing the base <br /> plate and conduit supports for an Ultrasonic Transducer on the Illinois Route 48 Bridge over <br /> Friends Creek northeast of Argenta, Illinois. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Prior Council Action <br /> There has been no prior Council action on this item. <br /> Rural Street Maintenance <br /> In 1996, the City installed an Ultrasonic Transducer on the Illinois Route 48 Bridge over <br /> Friend's Creek in order to measure the creek level. This was part of an overall project to place <br /> flow monitors on the various tributaries to Lake Decatur in an effort to assist the Water <br /> Management staff in regulating the level of the lake. This is referred to as a SCADA system <br /> (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition). Knowing the inflow of water into the lake enables <br /> the City to prepare for heavy flows during wet weather and monitor general flow conditions <br /> during dry weather. The system of creek monitors is critical to the management of Lake <br /> Decatur. <br /> In 2008, the Illinois Department of Transportation informed City staff that they were replacing <br /> the Route 48 Bridge over Friend's Creek. This would require the removal and replacement of <br /> the Ultrasonic Transducer that monitors the creek level. At the request of the City, IDOT <br /> obtained an agreed unit price to install a base plate for the transducer and conduit hangers for the <br /> electrical and telemetry feed for the monitor. The agreed unit price is $6,372. Staff is requesting <br /> the authority to reimburse the State up to $7,000 for the work which will allow some <br /> contingency if needed. <br /> Page � 1 <br />
