Marley, P.E., Public Works Director �� SUBJECT: Addendum to Street Reconstruction, City Project 09-24 SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing additional funding in the amount of$30,000 be added to the Street Reconstruction project, City Project 09-24, for a total project cost of $765,311.16. BACKGROUND: Prior Council Action June 15, 2009—Council approved Resolution R2009-98 approving the bid and awarding a contract to Dunn Company in the amount of$735,311.16 for Street Reconstruction. The Street Reconstruction Project is an annual project that provides improvement to deteriorated roadways. In late June a water main break occurred in the 1300 block of South Silas causing significant damage to the surrounding pavement due to the resulting flooding which caused a portion of the pavement to separate from the subgrade. The repair cost is projected to be less than$10,000 and is beyond the size normally attempted to be repaired by City crews. Unit bid prices are currently in place with the 2009 Street Reconstruction project to provide the street repair required. Staff recommends this project as the best method to perform the necessary street repairs. Over the past few years, the City has added funding to the street improvement projects to repair pavement damaged by water main breaks. Public Works and Water Management staff recommends that a total of$30,000 be added to the current Street Reconstruction project for the repair of any large pavement sections damaged by water main breaks this construction season. These funds will remain unused if no more repairs are needed. POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this resolution and bid award.
