R2009-76 <br /> RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE PROPOSAL TO CHANGE THE NAME OF <br /> SPRING CREEK IN SOUTHWESTERN DECATUR TO WARD BRANCH <br /> WHEREAS, there are currently three Spring Creeks located in Macon County, two <br /> being within the City of Decatur's corporate limits; and <br /> WHEREAS, the U.S. Board on Geographic Names has received a proposal to change <br /> the name of Spring Creek lying in southwestern Decatur, a tributary to the Sangamon River, <br /> to the historical name "Ward Branch" and requests a recommendation from affected local <br /> governments; and <br /> WHEREAS, the redundancy of the Spring Creek name causes confusion when <br /> referring to the watersheds of these creeks and changing the name to Ward Branch would <br /> eliminate this confusion; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br /> OF DECATUR, ILLINOIS: <br /> Section 1. That the City of Decatur supports the proposal to change the name of <br /> Spring Creek, a tributary of the Sangamon River, to Ward Branch. <br /> Section 2.
