♦
COUNCIL MEMORANDUM
#2009-07
DATE: April 28, 2009
TO: Honorable Mayor Michael T. McElroy and City Council
FROM: Ryan P. McCrady, City Manager
SUBJECT: Request for Parking Garages for Cruisin' Downtown
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of the attached
resolution authorizing City Centre Decatur (CCD) to charge $2.00 per vehicle for
parking in City Garages B and C for the Cruisin' Downtown event to be held Saturday,
July 11, 2009 in downtown Decatur.
BACKGROUND: City Centre Decatur is planning to hold the 17th annual Cruisin'
Downtown on Saturday, July 11, 2009, in and around Central Park. This event is based
on a day-long classic car display, and it is the organization's largest annual fund raiser.
Executive Director Daylyn Wells writes, "As festival production costs begin to rise, the
City Centre Decatur board of directors has been looking at additional means of income
for Cruisin' Downtown. In an effort to make this year's event financially successful, we
respectfully request the use of City Garages B and C for the day of the car show. Our
plan is to use CCD board members to staff the garages and charge a nominal $2.00 per '
vehicle fee for car show spectators wanting prime parking."
If the Council approves this request, this would be the first year this organization would j
be permitted to charge for parking in these garages and keep the proceeds. ,
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: There are no known objectors to this request. Reserve
parking in the garages would not be affected by this request.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Daylyn Wells, Executive Director of City Centre
Decatur, Phone: 423-3475.
STAFF REFERENCE: Assistant City Manager, Jerry Bauer, is working with City Centre
Decatur staff regarding this request.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: There would be no direct budget implications for the
City since the event will be held on a Saturday, when fees are not otherwise normally
charged for parking in these City garages.
attachment
