Marley, P.E., Director of Engineering& In rastruc re <br /> SUBJECT: Resolution Appropriating Motor Fuel Tax Funds <br /> General Maintenance 2009 <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended by staffthat the City Council approve the attached resolution appropriating <br /> $402,000 in Motor Fuel Tax(MFT) funds for general traffic signal maintenance and operations <br /> to be completed in 2009 and that the Mayor be authorized to sign said resolution, and the City <br /> Clerk to attest. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Prior Council Action <br /> On March 28, 2009, Council met in Study Session to review the Capital Improvements Plan. <br /> The Draft FY2009-10 CIP includes a recommended allocation of$402,000 of MFT funds to pay <br /> for operations. These funds aze used to pay for general traf�ic signal maintenance and <br /> operations. <br /> The City Council has appropriated Motor Fuel Tax funds for this purpose going back many <br /> years. <br /> The Motor Fuel Tax(MFT) funds allocated to local agencies are administered by the Illinois <br /> Department of Transportation(IDOT). The City is required to adopt a resolution specifying the <br /> intended use of the Motor Fuel Tax funds. <br /> For the calendar year of 2009 the City budget (FY09 and FY10) proposes to authorize the <br /> expenditure of up to $402,000 in MFT funds to reimburse the General Fund for expenses related <br /> to the operation and maintenance of the City's traffic signals. This funding covers the costs of <br /> two City Electricians, their vehicles, materials, traffic signal electricity costs and contracted <br /> services. IDOT reimburses the City's MFT fund for a portion of the maintenance work and <br /> electricity serving traf�ic signals located on State highways in the City. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this resolution. <br /> Page � 1 <br />
