BACKGROUND: The Federal Transit Administration (FTA)has announced that Decatur has been allocated $1,697,301 in capital grant funds under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Projects that are ' eligible for these funds must be "shovel ready" -- able to be implemented quickly. The following transit projects are included in the annual Transportation Improvement Program and are ready to be implemented: • purchase of four buses; • purchase of two wheelchair vans; • repairs and improvements to the bus barn; • installing a water recycling system in the bus washer; and • resurfacing the asphalt parking lot. Staff estimates the cost of these projects at about $1.7 million. This gant does not require a local match. Additional capital funds may become available later this year. If so Decatur would be required to submit another grant application. POTENTIAL A public hearing was held to discuss this grant application. No OBJECTION: negative comments were received. There are no known or expected objections to this grant application.
