Marley, P.E., Director of Engineering& Inf�astrucfure <br /> SUBJECT: Various Storm Sewer Improvements, City Project 08-20 <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended by staffthat the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the <br /> contract for Various Storm Sewer Improvements, City Project 08-20,to Barr& Robison Sewer <br /> &Excavating, Inc. as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of$138,020, and that the <br /> Mayor be authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Prior Council Action <br /> The City Council approved the FY 2008-09 budget and FY 09-12 and Capital Improvements <br /> Plan which included an allocation of funds for this project. <br /> Project Locations and Descriptions <br /> This project consists of repairing existing storm sewer and structures at three locations within the <br /> City of Decatur. Sinkholes indicating collapsed pipe or structures were found at all three <br /> locations. <br /> 1. Replace a collapsed storm sewer manhole located in the 3600 block of East Lake Shore <br /> Drive. <br /> 2. Replace approximately 85 feet of collapsed storm sewer at the intersection of South 22"a <br /> Street and East Cantrell Street. <br /> 3. Replace approximately 60 feet of collapsed storm sewer along the north side of Lost <br /> Bridge Road between Brierwood and Hilltop. <br /> Repair work at all locations includes earth and pavement work as necessary to complete the <br /> drainage work and restore the site to its original condition. The project also provides line items <br /> to enable the contractor to respond to additional storm sewer work that may arise during the <br /> project. <br /> The project plans and specifications were prepared by Engineering Division staff. The project <br /> was advertised March 11, 2009, and bids were opened on March 25, 2009.
