 . II
COUNCIL COMMUNICATION FORM
PURCHASING& INTERNAL SERVICES MEMOR.ANDUM I
#09-12 II,
March 3, 2009
TO: Honorable Mayor Carrigan and City Council
FROM: Ryan P. McCrady, City Manager
Ron Neufeld, Financial Management Director
Deborah M. Perry, Purchasing Supervisor
SUBJECT: Bids for Zero Turning Radius Mower
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding contract to Sloan
Implement Company to furnish one (1) John Deere 997Z Trak zero turning radius mower.
BACKGROUND: This equipment is used by the Lake Services for mowing at the dredge site,
the South Water Treatment Plant, etc. It will replace a 2000 Simplicity Legacy Riding mower
currently in service. The Simplicity had a 6 year useful life, but was held for an additional 3
years. The Simplicity mower will be traded to Sloan Implement Company.
The new mower is an upgrade since it is a commercial mower due to the volume of acreage
being mowed. The difference in cost between the amount in the Equipment Replacement Fund
and the price of the zero turning radius mower will be paid by the Water Department out of the
Water Fund.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Lake personnel requested the mower and Fleet
Maintenance wrote the specifications.
STAFF REFERENCE: Richard Marley, Director of Engineering and Infrastructure, 424-2747.
Keith Alexander, Director of Water Management, 424-2863. Richard and Keith will be at the
council meeting to answer any questions the council may have about this purchase.
BUDGET: $2340 from the Water Fund.
$9260 from the Equipment Replacement Fund.
