Marley, P.E., Director of En ' e ��c` n st r <br /> SUBJECT: Ordinances Authorizing the Installation of Handicap Parking Space <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> Staff recommends the approval of the attached Ordinance authorizing the following item <br /> recommended by the Traffic and Parking Commission: <br /> 1. The installation of a handicapped parking space in front of 660 North Carolina Avenue. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The Traffic and Parking Commission on January 13, 2009, voted to recommend the installation <br /> of a handicap space on the street in front of 660 North Carolina Avenue which was requested by <br /> Mr. Jim Bowman who is handicapped and resides there. Mr. Bowman indicated that there is an <br /> asphalted boulevard in front of his home where he normally parks so that his wife has free use of <br /> the driveway. The space is within the right of way, it is open to any vehicle to use for parking. <br /> Area residents will park in the asphalt azea which makes it inaccessible to Mr. Bowman. <br /> The Commission voted to recommend the installation of a handicap parking space in front of 660 <br /> North Carolina Avenue at the request of the homeowner who is disabled. <br /> The Engineering Division Memorandum dated January 6, 2009, is attached for Council's review. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTION; No objections anticipated. <br /> INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Traffic and Parking Commission <br /> STAFF REFERENCE: Richard Marley, Director or Engineering and <br /> Infrastructure, at 424-2747 <br /> Matt Newell, City Engineer, at 424-2747 <br /> The Director of Engineering and Infrastructure, Richard Marley, will be in attendance at the City <br /> Council meeting to answer any questions of the Council on this item. <br /> Page � 1 <br />
