' OF'fC
 ;9a
= C
V —70
`'
'/[L I N 0`'
January 6, 2009
ENGINEERING DIVISION MEMORANDUM
MEMORANDUM TO: Richard G. Marley, P.E.
Director of Engineering and Infrastructure
FROM: Matthew C. Newell, P.
City Engineer
SUBJECT: January Traffic & Parking Commission Meeting
NEW BUSINESS
ITEM #1. Request for an on-street handicapped parking space in front of 660 North Carolina
Avenue.
EXISTING CONDITONS:
1. See the attached drawing for location and other information. The proposed handicapped parking
space is on a paved portion of boulevard immediately in front of 660 North Carolina Avenue. Since
the space is within the right of way, it is open to any vehicle to use for parking.
2. Attached is a 90 Day Temporary Handicap Parking Designation issued by the Police Chief.
RECOMMENDATION:
Jim Bowman, of 660 North Carolina Avenue, is handicapped and has an asphalted boulevard in front of his
home where he normally parks so that his wife has free use of the driveway. Area residents will park in the
asphalt area which makes it inaccessible to Mr. Bowman. The City Police Department investigated the
request and issued a 90 day order to designate a handicapped parking space.
Staff recommends that the 90 Day Temporary Handicap Parking Designation enacted by the Police
Department be made permanent.
