Excerpts from Plan Commission Minutes of December 4,2008 continued: '
Mr. Casch stated the church wanted to get a variance for the sign but was told they could not.
The church would like to put up a sign that would be visible for vehicles traveling on Sunnyside
Road and Route 36. The sign will have letter tracks on the bottom to communicate activities to
the surrounding area. The height of the sign will allow the message to be changed easily. The
sign the church is looking at will either be seven (7) or ten (10) feet high. He said the parcel of
property immediately south of the church is zoned B-2. The church has been in its present
location for thirty (30) some years. They are not planning on selling their property.
There were no objectors present.
Ms. Elayna Sadorus stated there have been a few times over the years that questions have come
up from the Commission members and she would like to know the proper format to have the
City look at the particular situation and possibly make a change. Ms. Stickle said the
Commission member can bring it up at the meetings, telephone or emails.
Plan Commission members would like Ms. Stickle to look into amending the Ordinance so the
Zoning Board of Appeals may have the authority to grant a variance for a sign.
It was moved and seconded (John/Sadorus) to forward Cal. No. 08-57 to the City Council with
recommendation for approval as presented by staff. Motion carried unanimously.
