. a
ECONOMIC AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT MEM RANDUM
Memo No. 07-85
July 12, 2007
TO: Honorable Mayor Paul Osborne and City Council
FROM: Steve G City Manager I'
Greg C. Cro , Director of Economic &Urban Developrne ',
SUBJECT: Lake Crest Dnve Name Change I
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that t e City Council not approve
rescinding Section 2 of Ordinance No. 2007-09 that renamed Lake Cre t Drive to Rockwell Avenue.
City Planning, Fire, Engineering and the Emergency Telephone System Board (ETSB) staff feel that
renaming the street back to Lake Crest Drive will damage public safety r City residents.
BACKGROUND: The renaming of the portion of Lake Crest Drive to Rockwell Avenue was agreed
upon by City and ETSB staff to maaimize public safety. False accusati ns regarding the renaming of
the street to Rockwell Avenue have been made by Mr. Phil Wicklin . City and ETSB staff have
reviewed the accusations and no City codes, ordinances or ETSB guid lines were violated. Also, no
address along this portion of Lake Crest Drive was changed due to t e renaming of the street. A
petition from residents along the remaining portion of Lake Crest Dve was submitted to rename
Rockwell Avenue back to Lake Crest Drive.
The Technical Review Committee met on Thursday, May 31, 2007, at which time they discussed the
residents concerns and proposals as requested in a petition to the Myor and City Council. Also
represented at this meeting was the Emergency Telephone Systems Bo d (ETSB). A vote was taken
after discussion and consideration to the request of leaving the name of Lake Crest Drive and not
changing to Rockwell Avenue. The vote was 4-0 to keep the name of ockwell Avenue as approved
by City Council. Those voting in favor of maintaining the name of ockwell Avenue were ETSB,
Economic and Urban Development Department, Fire Department and t e Department of Engineering
and Infrastructure.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: N/A
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: N/A
STAFF REFERENCE: Any additional questions may be forwarded to Greg Crowe at 424-2727 or at
gccrowea,decaturnet.org.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: N/A I
