The Premcor Refining Group is u dertaking a contamination
remediation effort as the result of a leaking underground storage tank at the site.
On behalf of Premcor, Environmental Management and Technologies Inc. has been coordinating
the remediation wark with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agercy(IEPA). The IEPA has
advised that a remediation option is for the company to request that the City pass an Ordinance
prohibiting the installation of new wells to supply drinking water within approximately 2,500
feet of the 1550 East Pershing Road site.
Staff has reviewed this request and considers the proposed ground water restriction to be
; acceptable and similar to other Ground Water Ordinances the City has approved in the past.
There are no known potable water wells in the area covered by the Ordinance. The restricted
area is served by the City's water distribution system.
Staff has attached the original letter from Environmental Managemen and Technologies, Inc., !
which outlines the remediation efforts currently taking place and why they are necessary. ,
 I
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known obj ctions to adopting this
ordinance.
