I .
ECONOMIC AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT MEMO NDUM
No. 07-18
February 28, 2007
TO: Honorable Mayor Paul Osborne and City Council Member
FROM: Steve Ga City Manager I
Greg Cro e irector of Economic&Urban Developme
Suzan Sti , Senior Planner S.i,S
Vasudha Pin amaraju, GIS Planner %.JOv,c^'

SUBJECT: Change the street name from Albany Court to East Lauren Lane East Gunnar Court, South
Will Court, and South Albany Court; Change the pre directional of Albany lace to South Albany Place.
SiTMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff is of the opinion that the pr osed changes would help in
maintaining consistency and aid in emergency response.
BACKGROUND: Albany Place subdivision was rezoned in 1997 from -2 Single Family Residence
District to R-3 PUD Single Family Residence District Planned Unit Devel pment. The final plat of the
Albany Place subdivision Phase III was approved in 1998. The plat was ap roved and recorded with one
private street named Albany Court. At the time planning staff issued add esses for this subdivision on
Albany Place, East Lauren Lane, South Will Court, East Gunnar Court, an South Albany Court instead
of the recarded street named Albany Court. The proposed street names ere never formally recorded;
current planning staff identified the discrepancy while helping the fire d partment correct the address
information for Albany Place Subdivision in their database. To correct th s problem, the planning staff
proposes to formally change the street names. The following information i relevant to the proposal:
1. The streets in Albany Place Subdivision are currently being utilized as Albany Place, East Lauren
Lane, South Will Court,East Gunnar Court, and South Albany Court. These streets are private
streets and will remain private.
2. Albany Place runs north and south and should have the pre directionlal South to be in compliance
with the City of Decatur Address Code. '
3. According to City of Decatur Subdivision Ordinance, streets which hange direction by more
than fifty(50) degrees far a distance of more than one hundred and ifty feet shall not use the
same name the entire length. The recorded street named Albany Co rt makes a complete
rectangle. This would be in violation of the City of Decatur Subdivi ion Ordinance.
4. East Lauren Lane, South Will Court, East Gunnar Court, and South lbany Court are all straight
roads and are in compliance with the City of Decatur Subdivision O dinance.
5. This proposed street name change is to formally change the street na es from Albany Court to
East Lauren Lane, South Will Court, East Gunnar Court, and South lbany Court and will not
effect any existing addresses.
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: NA.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: The proposed changes have be n reviewed and considered
acceptable by ETSB.
STAFF REFERENCES: If Council members have questions they may co tact Vasudha Pinnamaraju at
424-2781, vpinnam'cudecatuf-net.or
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: NA
