Crowe, Interim Director, Econom c &Urban Development
BACKGROUND
1. Staff has received numerous requests for directional and inform tional signs since the sign
provisions of the Zoning Ordinance were adopted. Currently, buildin s within the office districts
are allowed to have one (1) wall sign located on the main building. he maximum area per sign
is 32 square feet, or one-half (1/2) square foot per linear foot of lot frontage, whichever is
greater, to a maximum of 75 square feet.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
2. Staff has prepared amendments for inclusion in Section XXV.E. .a and Section XXV.E.3.b
relative to signs in the (O-1) Office District.
3. The specific amendments to Section XXV.E.3.a and Section XX .E.3.b are as follows in 4
and 5 immediately below. ,
4. SECTION XXV.E.3.a. is proposed to be amended by deleting the estriction of just "One (1)"
sign and adding that there would be "No limit; provided that the ag egate square footage of all
wall signs does not exceed the maximum square footage as required b low."
5. SECTION XXV.E.3.b. proposes to delete "32 square feet or one square foot per each linear I
foot of occupant frontage, whichever is larger, to a maximum of 75 quare feet." and adds "Ten I
(10) percent of the facade or wall on which the sign(s) is/are attache , or one (1) square foot per I
linear foot of occupant frontage, whichever is larger." I
STAFF ANALYSIS I!
6. After reviewing previous sign requests, Staff believes that the roposed amendments will '
provide a more consistent regulatory framework and make the size a d location of signs similar
to those placed or erected in other commercial districts.
7. The amendments would allow, with some restriction, more appr priate signage to be placed
on more than one facade or wall.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
8. Staff recommends that the amendments to Section XXV.E.3 a and Section XXV.E.3.b
relative to signs in the (O-1) Office District be recommended for appr val as presented.
