EXCERPTS OFTHE MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE TRAFFIC AND PARKING COMMISSION � Tuesday, April 11, 2006, 4:00 P.M. Item # 1 Request to prohibit parking on the south side of the 400 block of West Green Street Ed Harris opened the meeting asking Matt Newell to comment on the staff recommendation to approve the request. Newell stated Mr. & Mrs. Murphy sent in a - petition from the neighborhood to remove parking from the south side of the 400 block of West Green Street. The Murphy's obtained several signatures and the City sent letters out to all residents in the 400 block advising them of the request to remove parking. Mr. & Mrs. Murphy stated once the warm weather arrives people who do not live in the 400 block park their vehicles on the street, stand around smoking and drinking. Newell stated a call was received from Brenda Covey who lives on the north side of ' West Green Street stating she was unable to attend the meeting but wanted to let the , Commission know that she was against the request to prohibit parking. Ms. Covey lives directly across the street from Mr. & Mrs. Murphy. Harris mentioned that most of the !, homes do have driveways and garages. ', Mr. Murphy said he believes most of the people that park their vehicles on the street are ' coming and going from a nearby apartment building. They often have cars that block I, their driveway but they hesitate to say anything for fear of some type of retaliation. The I Murphy's have called the police several times to have the cars removed from blocking �, their driveway. 'I Harris stated he would go along with the recommendation to remove parking but II� questioned as to whether this would just shift the parking down into another block. ' Lieutenant Hassinger said it could possibly cause a problem for the apartment building parking lot. Newell said it would be easier for the apartment building to regulate the parking in their lot than for the City to try to enforce it on the street. He also stated that Green Street is blocked off east of Monroe Street. It was moved and seconded (Zaiz / Stewart) to follow staff recommendation to prohibit parking on the south side of the 400 block of West Green Street. Motion carried unanimously.
