COUNCIL COMMUNICATION FORM
PURCHASING& INTERNAL SERVICES MEMOR.ANDUM
#08-82
TO: Honorable Mayor Carrigan and City Council
FROM: Ryan P. McCrady, City Manager "
Ron Neufeld, Financial Management Director
Deborah M. Perry, Purchasing Supervisor cQ
SUBJECT: Bids on cargo trailer
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding contract to Brown's Inc.
to furnish one (1) Middleburry MTICH85X20 TA4 cargo trailer.
BACKGROUND: The trailer is used by the Street Department concrete crew to transport
equipment to job sites. It will replace a 1999 Haulmark trailer currently in service. The old
trailer will be sold at a later date.
The old Haulmark trailer has holes in the sides which cannot be repaired readily. In order to load
the large concrete saw (900 lbs.) in the old trailer, homemade 1 foot wide ramps are used. This
is not safe because the narrow ramps can allow the saw to slip when it is being loaded.
The new trailer has a drop down door (8 ft. wide) which acts as a ramp, making it safer to load
and unload the saw. In addition, the new trailer is larger so it can accommodate more equipment.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Street Department requested the replacement and also I'
wrote the bid specifications.
STAFF REFERENCE: Richard Marley, Director of Engineering & Infrastructure, 424-2747. I
Richard will be at the City Council meeting to answer any questions City Council may have
about this purchase.
BUDGET: $8499 from the General Fund Budget.
