City of Decatur
October 10, 2008
Page 2
The project team needs direction from the Owner. The City has three alternatives. First TSI can stop field
checking for unknown sewers. The GIS map will show manholes and inlets without attached sewers.
Hopefully, m the future the sewer locations can be checked and added. This will significantly reduce the cost at
this time, but will take more time in the future due to inefficiencies of doing the work in pieces.
The next alternative is to identify only the unknown sewers located on public right of way. Private sanitary
sewers and storm sewers have often been left of the '/4 Sections. These sewers are connected to the public sewer
system and are important, but maintenance of these sewers is left to the owners. The City must maintain the
public sewers, so in order of importance, the public sewers are more important than the private sewers.
The last alternative is to continue to locate as many of the unknown sewers as practical and finish the mapping
project with as a complete of map as is possible. This will be the most efficient process, but requires an increase
in the budget.
It is recommended that the last alternative be ado ted. Finish the ma in with th
p pp g e best information that is
available. If possible the City should allocate funds for field checkin the location of the un
g ma ed sewers.
rr
Very truly yours,
Bainbridge, Gee, Milanski&Associates, Inc.

Charles R.
