TELE
-SCAN, INC.
TELEVISED PIPELINE INSPECTION
6275 East Rt. 36 • Decatur, IL 62521 • 217/864-2940
November 10, 2008
City of Decatur
Attn: Matt Newell
One Gary K. Anderson Plaza
Decatur, IL 62523
Re: Critical Sewer Study
TeleScan Inc. was advised by city staff to direct our inspection efforts towards
the Critical Sewers.
Critical Sewer Definition is as follows:
A large "Trunk" line carrying a large amount of sanitary & storm combined
effluent to the Sanitary District Interceptors or to the Sanitary District Plant itself.
Major structural damage and/or collapse of these sewers could have a drastic
effect on some of the major roadways, other major utility trunk lines and even
homes and buildings in the path of these critical sewers.
City staff and TSI determined that twelve separate large diameter systems met
the criteria for critical sewers. In the following pages you will find a brief system
summary and photos from select critical sewer locations.
All Sewers have finro distinct areas of concern. The piping and the MH structure
themselves; in this critical sewer program no manhole inspections have been
done. A cursory inspection of the MH's done with the cameras as they travel
through the system is always done and major structural issues with the manholes
can usually be found this way, but a direct hands on MH inspection of these
structures has not been started as of yet.
