. <br /> Whereas, having Amtrak rail service would improve access for residents to <br /> medical care and for local businesses to external markets; and, <br /> Whereas, the City of Decatur recognizes the need of its residents, business <br /> community, higher education, and nearby communities to have access to <br /> convenient passenger rail service. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br /> CITY OF DECATUR, ILLINOIS: <br /> Section 1. That the Decatur City Council calls on the State of Illinois to <br /> work with Amtrak to initiate a route study for providing service to Decatur, Illinois <br /> and on the Illinois General Assembly and the United States Congress to fund <br /> capital improvements to re-establish passenger rail service. <br /> Section 2. That the Decatur City Council requests that residents and <br /> businesses in Decatur and surrounding communities join in forming a strong <br /> coalition in support of this initiative and, furthermore, supports the efforts of City <br /> Council members to hold public meetings and initiatives to secure Amtrak service. <br /> PRESENTED AND ADOPTED this 3`d day of November, 2008. <br /> MI HAEL T.
