. r
Engineering & Infrastructure Memorandum
NO. 2008-74
DATE: August 26, 2008
TO: Honorable Mayor Carrigan and City Council
FROM: John A. Smith, Interim City Manager ` ,
Richard G. Marley, P.E., Director of Engi eering 8i Infrast cture
Matthew C. Newell, P.E., City Engine
SUBJECT: Addendum to Street Reconstruction, City Project 08-24
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended by staffthat the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing
additional funding in the amount of$20,000 be added to the Street Reconstruction project, City
Project 08-24, for a total project cost of$614,118.60.
BACKGROUND:
The Street Reconstruction Project was authorized by Council on June 2, 2008. This project
provides a significant structural improvement to severely deteriorated roadways.
In late July/early August the City Water Department repaired a water main break neaz 352 Point
Bluff Drive that caused significant damage to the surrounding pavement by flooding and
washing out the subgrade. The repair cost is projected to be less than$20,000, and is beyond the
size normally attempted to be repaired by City crews.
Unit bid prices are currently in place with the 2008 Street Reconstruction project to provide the
street repair required. Staffrecommends this project as the best method to perform the necessary
street repairs.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this resolution
and bid award.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Water Management
STAFF REFERENCE: Richard Marley, Director of Engineering &
Infrastructure, at 424-2747
Matt Newell, City Engineer, at 424-2747
Richard Marley will be in attendance at the City Council meeting to answer any questions of the
Council on this item.
