r' •
♦
COUNCIL COMMUNICATION FORM
PURCHASING & INTERNAL SERVICES MEMORANDUM
#08-41
July 24, 2008
TO: Honorable Mayor Carrigan and City Council
FROM: John Smith, Interim City Manager
Ron Neufeld, Financial Managem nt Director R
Deborah M. Perry, Purchasing Supervisor 3`Q
SUBJECT: Bid for compressor
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding contract to King Lar to
furnish and install one (1) 20HP, 75CFM 230/460 Carlyle medium temperature compressor and
remove and dispose of existing unit.
BACKGROUND: The new compressor operates the air conditioners or chillers at the South
Water Treatment facility. It will replace the existing unit which is original to the Water Plant
and that caught fire and was destroyed recently.
Water plant personnel request King Lar as the sole source provider for this project based on their
continuing service and familiarity with the HVAC equipment at the Water Plant. In addition,
since King Lar is a local firm, the response time to calls should be much faster than an out of
town firm.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Water Management requested the compressor and
recommend approval of the bid.
STAFF REFERENCE: Keith Alexander, Director of Water Management, 424=2863 and Rob
Shirley, Water Production Manager, 424-2866. Keith will be at the council meeting to answer
any questions the Council may have about this purchase.
BUDGET: $7900 from the Water Fund.
