  .
COUNCIL COMMUNICATION FORM
PURCHASING& INTERNAL SERVICES MEMORANDUM
#08-34
June 30, 2008
TO: Honorable Mayor Carrigan and City Council '
FROM: John Smith, Interim City Manager I'
Ron Neufeld, Financial Management Director r i
Deborah M. Perry, Purchasing Supervisor I,
SUBJECT: Bids for vertical turbine pump and motor I
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding contract to ITT Water and
Wastewater LLC to furnish one (1) DHLC Goulds vertical turbine pump and motor.
BACKGROUND: This pump and motor will be used at the William Street Pump station to
replace a 25 year old pump. Of the three pumps at the pumping station, two were rebuilt last
year. However, the rehab was not successful because the pumps performed outside their pump
' curves when tested. This is because the system hydraulics changed after the sale of the North
Water Treatment Plant. Therefore, at least one new pump and motor is now required. These
pumps provide water to the east side of town and are also used when the South Water Plant has
lost pumpage to the distribution system. They also provide pressure and water during peak
demands.
Goulds pumps are also located at the William Street Reservoir and at the South Water Plant.
Any parts needed will be compatible with the pumps at each location. Goulds has been
providing water treatment pumps to the water industry for almost 150 years.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Water Management wrote the specifications for the
pump and motor and recommend approval of the bid.
STAFF REFERENCE: Keith Alexander, Director of Water Management, 424-2863 and Robin
Shirley, Water Production Manager, 424-2866. Keith Alexander will be at the council meeting
to answer any questions the Council may have about this purchase.
BUDGET: $22,405 from the Water Capital Fund.
