Smith, Interim City Manager
Greg Crowe, Assistant City Manage
Richelle D. Irons,Neighborhood Outreach Manager-
SUBJECT: Sale of Parcel located at 446 E. Grand Ave.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of the attached resolution and sale of property located at 446 E.
Grand Ave. The resolution states that the City of Decatur, who is the seller, will sell the property
to Consuelo Cruz, on behalf of the Green Light Garden Project for the amount of$600. This
amount is based on the assessed value of parcels located within the surrounding area.
BACKGROUND:
The Green Light Garden Project was created to teach biology, agriculture and conservation to
neighborhood children. They are taught to harvest, clean and prepare vegetables that they grow.
It exposes them to science and agriculture via a series of hands on projects and class discussions.
The project will evoke pride in the residents of the neighborhood. In May 2007, the organization
approached the Department of Economic and Urban Development Department about possible for
sale parcels. Because of the short amount of time staff was unable to advertise the property for
sale. The Green Light Garden Project is also a recipient of one of the Neighborhood
Improvement Grants. A sales agreement for the project described above is attached.
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS:
None known
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES:
Neighborhood Outreach Division
STAFF REFERENCE:
If City Council members have questions, they may contact Greg Crowe at 424-2727 or e-mail at
croe{%decatui•i Lcv.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS:
Settlement shall occur no more than one month after the date of the agreement.
