Ci En ' e � � � � � � SUBJECT: Street Reconstruction, City Project 08-24 SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the contract for Street Reconstruction, City Project 08-24, to Dunn Company, A Division of Tyrolt, Inc., as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of$594,118.60, and that the Mayor be authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest. BACKGROUND: � The Street Reconstruction Project is structured to provide a significant structural improvement to severely deteriorated roadways. Streets requiring reconstruction generally have pavement that is badly deteriorated through the combined effects of age and use. These pavements can no longer be effectively maintained by the City's street crews nor can a standard mill and overlay be applied with the hope of long term success. An additional goal of the project is to restore any existing curb and gutter to full function wherever possible and reduce the crown of the street. Street reconstruction work involves the removal of all, or portions, of the existing street,the construction of a stabilized road base where necessary and the placement of a new asphalt surface. A listing of the streets included in this year's reconstruction project is attached for your information. Included in the work, is the resurfacing of a driveway at 2747 North Sangamon Road which has been damaged by the frequent use as an access road for maintenance of the dredge pipeline. This work will cost approximately$11,000 and is being paid for by the Water Fund. Other work included is curb and gutter replacement for Mass Transit to mitigate tripping hazards and improve drainage at their facilities. This work will cost approximately$2,300 and is being paid for by Mass Transit. The project plans and specifications were prepared by Engineering Division staff. The project was advertised May 9, 2008, and bids were opened on May 23, 2008. The results for the letting are as follows: Compared to Engineer's Est.
