Economic and Urban Development Department Memorandum
08-57
May 7, 2008
TO: Honorable Mayor Osborne and City Council
FROM: John A. Smith, Interim City Manager
Greg Crowe, Assistant City Manag
Richelle D. Irons,Neighborhood Outreach Manager'
SUBJECT: Regional Neighborhood Network Conference Hotel Agreement
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of the attached
agreement authorizing the City of Decatur to enter into an agreement with the Decatur
Conference Center and Hotel to host the 2009 Regional Neighborhood Network
Conference (RNNC).
BACKGROUND: In 2007, the City of Decatur put in a bid to host the 2009 Regional
Neighborhood Network Conference. The City of Decatur will serve as the host city for
the conference and has been meeting monthly with local neighborhood groups and
organizations in preparation for the 2009 event. The RNNC has served as an annual
event for over 20 years and moves to participating cities each year. Various participating
cities include, but are not limited to: Peoria, IL, Muncie, IN, Bowling Green, KY,
Columbus, OH, and Louisville,KY. The conference provides attendees with a multitude
of neighborhood ideas and programs and we believe that hosting the event will promote
our city while providing valuable information to participants. Attendance varies between
300-400 participants each year.
POTENTIALOBJECTIONS: There are no known or expected objections.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: City staff, DCCH staff
STAFF REFERENCE: Richelle Irons at 424-2864.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: Agreement needs to be signed as soon as possible
to secure the date for the conference.
