Newell, P.E., City Engine��'"_ SUBJECT: 2008 Miscellaneous Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project, City Project 08-09 I SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: I'� It is recommended by staffthat the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the contract for the 2008 Miscellaneous Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project, City Project 08-09, to Barr and Robison Sewer&Excavating., Inc., as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of $299,680.00, and that the Mayor be authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest. BACKGROUND: The 2008 Miscellaneous Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project will install new manholes at various locations in the City to assist with ongoing maintenance work by providing better access for cleaning and inspection equipment. The project will also remove and replace damaged sanitary sewer segments as they are identified. As in past years, a significant component of this project includes the ability to perform rapid response work within the project contract as sewer system problems arise that need to be addressed quickly. Having bid prices in place for sewer repairs enables the City to move rapidly to address collapsed pipe or sink holes as they are located in the sewer system and before they turn into public health problems. This reduces the number of emergency time and material repair contracts that must be brought before the City Council. The project plans and specifications were prepared by Engineering Division staff. The project was advertised Monday, April 28, 2008, and bids were opened on Monday, May 12, 2008. The results for the letting are as follows: Compared to Engineer's Est.
