Both staff and members of the Coalition of Neighborhood Organizations have
attended the Regional Neighborhood Network conference for some time now and want to
host the event in 2009 in Decatur. The conference provides attendees with a multitude of
neighborhood improvement ideas and programs and we believe that hosting it represents
a great way to promote our city while providing valuable information to participants.
In order to host the event a steering committee made up of city staff members and
local neighborhood representatives is asking for:
➢ Up to $60,000 to be allocated over the netwo years to pay for a portion of event
expenses.
➢ Funding for a bus(expected to be less than $5,000)to send neighborhood
representatives and staffto the conference this year to experience first hand what
it will take to put on the event.
➢ Staff support where necessary.
We sent an informational green sheet to you on January 31 about this issue requesting
that you let us know if you had further questions or wanted to hold a study session on the
issue.
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: There are no known or expected objections.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: CONO, city staff,
STAFF REFERENCE: Billy Tyus at 424-2753 or Richelle Irons at 424-2864.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: Funding would come from the city's General
Fund.
