Alexander, Director of Water Management �,(�, <br /> . �r� <br /> SUBJECT: South Water Treatment Plant Chlorine Feed System Improvements <br /> Construction Contract Award- City Project No. W06-01 <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> Council approve the attached resolution awarding a Construction Contract for South Water <br /> Treatment Plant (SWTP) Chlorine Feed System Improvements to Burdick Plumbing & Heating <br />', Co. Inc. in the amount of$808,751. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> As presented to Council last year, this project will replace and upgrade the SWTP's chlorine feed <br /> system, which is one of the most critical and safety sensitive components in the facility. Plans <br /> and specifications were prepared by Black& Veatch (our engineering consultant for this project) <br /> and advertised for bids on December 3, 2007. Bids were opened on January 14, 2008 with the <br /> following results: <br /> Compared to <br /> Engineer's Est. <br /> Bidder Bid Price Over (-Under) <br /> Engineer's Estimate $930,940 - <br /> Burdick Plumbing & Heating $808,751 (-13.1%) <br /> Korte & Luitjohan Contractors $871,000 (-6.4%) <br /> Christy-Foltz, Inc. $920,000 (-1.2%) <br /> City and Black & Veatch staff recommend that the bid be awarded to the apparent lowest <br /> qualified, responsible and responsive bidder, Burdick Plumbing & Heating Co. Inc. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTION: <br /> None foreseen. <br />
