E., City EngineG�,/�, <br /> W��� <br /> SUBJECT: Emergency Heating Oil Tank Removal <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution approving the <br /> expenditure of$5,895 for the emergency removal of an unknown underground heating oil � <br /> storage tank in the 100 block of West William Street, and that the Mayor be authorized to sign <br /> said resolution, and the City Clerk to attest. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> In late September, 2007, the City's contractor uncovered a previously unknown underground <br /> heating oil tank located in the public right of way as they removed sidewalk for the construction <br /> of the Parking Lot#4 Addition, north of the Decatur Club on the southeast corner of Church <br /> Street and William Street. The City Council was informed of the discovery of this tank in a � <br /> memorandum dated October 3, 2007. At that time the City Council was informed that the tank <br /> had been determined to be hazardous and its removal was necessary to continue the parking lot <br /> construction. Bodine Environmental Services was retained to remove the tank and dispose of its <br /> contents. <br /> The tank was removed on October 11, 2007. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this <br /> resolution. <br /> INPUT FROM OTHER SQURCES: None <br /> STAFF REFERENCE: Richard Marley, Director of Engineering and <br /> Infrastructure, at 424-2747 <br /> Matt Newell, City Engineer, at 424-2747 <br /> Richard Marley will be in attendance at the City Council Meeting to answer questions of the <br /> Council on this item. <br />
