. �, <br /> Engineering & Infrastructure Memorandum <br /> NO. 2007-56 <br /> September 10, 2007 <br /> TO: Honorable Mayor Osborne and City Council <br /> FROM: Steve Gar City Manager �,(�, �v(,�r <br /> Richard G. rley, P.E.,Director of Engineering & Infrastructure �'�'� <br /> Matthew C. ewell, P.E., City EngineerG�j <br /> SUBJECT: 2007 Various Storm Sewer Improvements, City Project 07-20 <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution <br /> awarding the contract for 2007 Various Storm Sewer Improvements, City Project 07-20, <br /> to ACE Contracting of Illinois as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of <br /> $219,182.50 and that the Mayor be authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk <br /> to attest. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> This project will install a segment of storm sewer on Country Club Road just north of US <br /> Rt. 36 to relieve an erosion and flooding problem along the east side of the roadway. <br /> Additional work will remove and replace a failed section of storm sewer on Road 2 in the � <br /> Southmoreland area at the south end of Jasper Street. <br /> The project plans and specifications were prepared by Engineering Division staff. The <br /> project was advertised August 27, 2007, and bids were opened on September 10, 2007. <br /> The results for the letting are as follows: � <br /> Compared to <br /> Engineer's Est. '�, <br /> Bidder Bid Price Over(-Under) ' <br /> Engineer's Estimate $212,381.00 ---- I' <br /> ACE Contracting of Illinois $219,182.50 3.20% I <br /> Otto Baum Co., Inc. $243,562.15 14.68% <br /> Entler Excavating Co., Inc. $274,322.00 29.17% <br /> Staff recommends that the City Council approve a contract with ACE Contracting of <br /> Illinois to perform the 2007 Various Storm Sewer Improvements project. ACE <br /> Contracting is a general contractor, located in Springfield. They recently bid on the <br /> Nickey Avenue project and were not recommended for the work due to the project <br /> location, size, and scope. <br />
