Engineering & Infrastructure Memorandum <br /> NO. 2007-55 <br /> September 5, 2007 <br /> TO: Honorable Mayor Osborne and City Council <br /> , <br /> � <br /> FROM: Steve Gar City Manager � (� <br /> Richard G. rley, P.E.,Director of Engineering & Irifrastt��c�tnre <br /> Matthew C. well, P.E., City Engineer�,(�/� <br /> SUBJECT: 2007 Miscellaneous Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project, City Project 07-09 <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the <br /> contract for 2007 Miscellaneous Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project, City Project 07-09, to Entler <br /> Excavating Co., Inc., as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of$230,000.00, and that the <br /> Mayor be authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest. <br />' BACKGROUND: <br /> The 2007 Miscellaneous Sanita Sewer Im rovement Pro'ect will install new manholes at various <br /> rY P J <br /> locations in the City to assist with ongoing maintenance work by providing better access for <br /> cleaning equipment. The project will also remove and replace some damaged sanitary sewer <br /> segments. Similar to what has been done in past years, a significant component of this project <br /> includes the ability to perform rapid response work within the project contract as sewer system <br /> problems arise that need to be addressed quickly. Having bid prices for sewer repairs available <br /> enables the City to move rapidly to address collapsed pipe or sink holes as they are located in the <br /> sewer system and before they turn into public health problems. This reduces the number of <br /> emergency time and material repair contracts used by the City. <br /> The project plans and specifications were prepared by Engineering Division staff.
