COUNCIL COMMUNICATION FORM
PURCHASING& 1NTERNAL SERVICES MEMORANDUM
#07-56
August 29, 2007
TO: Honorable Mayor Osborne and City Council
FROM: Steve Ga n, City Manager
Ron Ne d, Financial Management Director
Deborah M. Perry, Purchasing Suprvisor t'Q
SUBJECT: Purchase of Police Vehicle
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding a contract to Miles
Chevrolet to furnish one (1) 2007 Chevrolet Impala police pursuit vehicle.
BACKGROUND: This vehicle will be.used by the Police Department. It will replace a 2004
Chevrolet Impala that was totaled in a crash last week. The crash was not the fault of the City.
Rislc Management will subrogate against the responsible parties' insurance company.
Miles Chevrolet has one black pursuit vehicle in their inventory with specifications very similar
to ours. By purchasing the vehicle now from Miles, the Police Department will not have to '
operate without one, since it will be several months before the next purchase of police vehicles.
Purchasing a 2007 model will avoid probable price increases expected for 2008 models.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Police Department and Fleet Maintenance recommend
the purchase.
STAFF REFERENCE: Richard Marley, Director of Engineering and Infrastructure — 424-
2747. Dick Borders, MSC Manager — 875-4820. Richard will be at the meeting to answer any
questions the City Council may have about this purchase.
BUDGET: $18,489.88 from self insurance fund.
