 . ,
Engineering & Infrastructure Memorandum
NO. 2007 - 53
' DATE: August 28, 2007
TO: Honorable Mayor Osborne and City Council
.
FROM: Steve Gar City Manager
Richard . rle Director of En ineerin Infrastr _ re
Y g g
Matthew . ewell, P. E., City Enginee `
SUBJECT: Emergency Sewer Repair: 1700 Block West King Street
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing the
expenditure of$14,309.36 for the emergency repair of a collapsed sewer main in the 1700
Block of West King Street, and that the Mayor be authorized to sign said resolution, and the
City Clerk to attest.
BACKGROUND: I
In early August the City was notified of sinkholes in the roadway and boulevard area near 1717 I
West King Street. On August 3, 2007, a televised inspection of the sewer under the sinkholes I
was conducted by TeleScan Inc. Heavy debris was found consistent with a collapsed sewer. '
City crews were unable to clear the debris and open the sewer. The depth of the sewer
exceeded the ability of City crews to excavate. Barr &Robison Sewer and Excavating was
directed to dig to the pipe and determine its condition.
Upon reaching the pipe it was found to have collapsed, with flow severely restricted. Barr&
Robison was directed to replace approximately 20 feet of collapsed pipe thereby restoring the
sewer into full service.
The contractor's work commenced on August 7, and was completed on August 9, 2007. ,
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this
resolution.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: None
